New Broods at Marshside - 7 May 2012

The new arrivals at Marshside had a mixed day today, due to some extreme weather, ranging from brilliant sunshine to an absolute deluge.

The Mute Swans that had nested up the channel running NW from the Sandgrounders hide, were now proudly swimming around with a brood of 9 cygnets. And, just visible in the near reeds, was a Coot sitting on a brood of 6 young. They left the nest just before the rain, giving us a brief glimpse of the young, bald, red-faced aliens but scurried back to safety as the heavens opened.

As did I.
