Long-billed Dowitcher - 15 October 2012

A week on and I was back at Inner Marsh Farm for the Long-billed Dowitcher. This bird is very much an accidental visitor to the UK (only a handful of records per year) but not a first record for IMF.

A first for me though, so I was pleased to see it still there amongst the 40 Golden Plover and Lapwing (not hard to find). I watched it for over an hour and it fed constantly - it did for a few days - no doubt in preparation for a long flight across the pond to rejoin its mates in the US.

Other notable birds today included Snipe, Black-tailed godwit, a Hobby, a Peregrine (twice) and I watched 3 Whooper Swan fly in and land on the Border pool.
