We could not find them at first but the Smew was still about so we watched that for a while before we went off for another look. We eventually found the Waxwings, first roosting behind one of the eastern hides, and then feeding on the white berries of a nearby Kashmir Rowan (Sorbus cashmiriana), which may well be the only one of its kind on the whole reserve.
Despite a very grey day that was now approaching dusk, we did get some good views through the scope from our position in the undergrowth. Alas, a decent photograph was impossible.
