A walk around the eastern end of Moore Nature Reserve, took me first to Birchwood Pool where a small colony of Great Black-backed Gulls were resting on the small island. Their presence having more to do with the proximity of the nearby land-fill site than anything else.
Further east and along the banks of the larger island, a number of Canada Geese were on nests whilst a few males fought and displayed nearby. Quite a noisy affair but the appearance of a Little Grebe feeding in the nearby margins proved a welcome distraction, as did the continuous orbital flight of a sole Oystercatcher.
Further east, the Lagoon held a few Tufted Duck, a Grey Heron and a pair of nesting Mute Swan.
Best of the day was the eastern reed-bed, where my first Ruddy Duck of the year was seen, along with another Little Grebe and a male Pochard.
